Safety, education top priorities
Mark your calendar Sept. 25 – Town staff and local residents are teaming up this fall to promote an issue that has spent a lot of time in the limelight in recent weeks: bicycle safety. Town staff, members of the Greenways, Trails and Bikeways Advisory Board, and other concerned residents will host a one-hour Bicycle Awareness Ride at 10 a.m. in order to heighten awareness motorist and cyclist rules of the road and to show riders how to safely navigate different types of roadways, from neighborhood streets to higher-traffic thoroughfares. The ride is particularly important given increased numbers of cyclists in the region and a number of recent bicycle-motor vehicle crashes that have resulted in serious injury. As a result, said Blackburn, elected officials, cyclists and motorists alike have all been asking how the town can help to promote a safer environment for everyone who uses the region’s roads. Thanks to Lauren Blackburn, City of Davidson planning manager, avid cyclist and former member of the City of Charlotte Bicycle Advisory Committee for sending us this alert.
The ride starts at South Prong Greenway trailhead at end of South Street. For more info CLICK: Davidson Website
