Two memorials in Charlotte
The idea behind this title is to place discarded white-painted bikes (usually with flowers) at local locations where cyclists have been injured or killed. They serve as highly-visible memorials and are not intended to be a political statement per se (although they may be interpreted that way by some). This is actually part of a grass routes international movement which started by an artist in San Francisco in 1992. See Global Memorials.
For more information on the two memorials that were anonymously placed in Charlotte last week, one in memory of Shcrissny Potts and one in memory of Todd Weaver see Ghost Bike . Thanks to Weldon Weaver for passing this info onto CABA.
